Roger Federer confident on winning another Title this Season

Roger Federer believes he can add to his Grand Slams’ tally in the ongoing season.

However, the Swiss maestro admits the fact that the level of competition in the men’s category has got a notch higher in the recent times.

According to Federer, these days, even the players, who are outside top 10, also posses the ability to win slams.

A few years back, only the top guys in the rankings were considered to be the contenders for the slam titles, but, off late, it has been seen on quite a few occasions that the lower ranked players have become the champions.

During the previous season itself, a couple of guys won the Grand Slams when nobody was expecting them to do so.

Novak Djokovic was the hot favourite in the Australian Open, but, he was beaten in the quarters and the player who got better of him i.e. Stan Wawrinka crossed the further hurdles as well and lifted the trophy.

Then, in the US Open again, people were putting their money on Djokovic, but, it’s Marin Cilic, a 26-year old guy from Croatia, who emerged out victorious beating his Japanese opponent Kei Nishikori in the final match.

That title win saw Cilic making his way into the top 10 for the first time in his career. Presently, the Croatian is at the 9th position in the rankings.

In an interview recently, when Federer was asked about lower ranked players making big impacts in the Grand Slams recently, he said, “Well, it’s great for the game, isn’t it? The competition is much tougher now. Anyone who is there in top 20 can end up winning. The rankings are really close nowadays.”

Federer himself is ranked 2nd in the ATP rankings at the moment.
